FAQ

  • Personal Color Analysis is the process of discovering the colors that harmonize with your true, natural self.

At Color 12, we use the precise 12-Tone TCI Method, grounded in the science of natural color harmony and an accurate interpretation of the Munsell color system.

We use a neutral backdrop, full spectrum lighting, and calibrated drapes to ensure accurate results.

Throughout the analysis, we search for the versions of hue, value, and chroma that harmonize with your natural coloring.

You leave the analysis with 65+ colors that guide your choices with clothing, makeup, and more!

  • I received my training through True Colour International (TCI), an organization that follows the advanced 12-tone color analysis method. Unlike traditional approaches that categorize individuals strictly into the four seasons—Winter, Summer, Spring, and Autumn—this method goes beyond the simplistic warm vs. cool classification.

In reality, approximately 67% of people don't fit neatly into either warm or cool categories. Instead, they fall into what's known as neutral territory—the spaces between each season. The 12-tone system accounts for this by identifying eight distinct neutral tones, offering a far more refined and accurate analysis.

This comprehensive approach allows for a deeper understanding of each person's unique coloring, making it one of the most precise methods available today.

  • Grey: The way your hair greys is in perfect harmony with your natural coloring! So cool! If you have grey hair without any added dye, we will leave your hair uncovered.

Colored: If your hair contains any dye, I will be covering it with a neutral grey cap to ensure accurate results!

  • Please do not spray tan, use self application tan (example: foam or lotion), or have a heavy sunburn on your face before the appointment.

Please arrive with no makeup on. This includes tinted moisturizer and concealer! It’s best to have your skin in its most natural state in order to see how the drapes affect the appearance of the skin.

If you wear glasses, they will need to be taken off during the analysis. If you are concerned that you will be unable to see clearly and have contact lenses, please feel free to wear those instead.

I will be covering your hair if it contains any dye.

Please do not wear heavy perfume. Some clients are very sensitive, and once smell permeates the drapes, it can be very difficult to remove.

  • If you were previously analyzed using a different method, there’s a strong chance your results may differ with the 12-Tone Method. For example, the traditional 4-Season Method offers only warm or cool undertone categories. In contrast, the 12-Tone Method includes warm-neutral and cool-neutral undertones—categories that actually represent about two-thirds of the population. This makes it a far more nuanced, scientifically grounded, and reliable approach to color analysis.

Likewise, if your analysis was done virtually or through digital images, it’s very likely the results may not be accurate. Digital photos can distort color, and monitor calibration varies significantly, making it difficult to assess true undertones.

  • To ensure accurate results, I will not see more than 3 people in one day!
